What is a Healthy Street?
A Healthy Street is a welcoming, inclusive space that allows people to walk, cycle, spend time in and engage in community life.
Creating streets that feel pleasant, safe and attractive, encourages and enables people to live active lives and use sustainable travel options. In turn helping to improve air quality and create a healthier environment for everyone.
Healthy Streets in Kingston
Kingston Council is committed to making the A243 corridor and surrounding area a greener, healthier and more attractive place to live, play and do business.
Last year, the Surbiton and South of the Borough Neighbourhood Committees considered the findings of a ‘Healthy Streets’ study undertaken in the area.
The aim of the study was to identify potential locations and measures for improving sustainable transport, in order to reduce through-traffic and encourage walking, cycling and public transport use in the area.
Traffic management schemes will now be introduced in a number of roads.
