Earlier in the year we asked where in Kingston you’d like to see electric vehicle charging points when funding became available.
These charging points will allow electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid owners to charge their vehicles from the electricity powering a street lamp. This is suited to residential roads where the majority of houses do not have off-street parking.
We said that we would work with a supplier to identify which roads or parts of roads are going to be suitable for electric vehicle chargers to be installed.
Suitability for lamp-column charging can depend on many factors:
The distance from the lamp-column to the kerb
The type of lamp column
Adequate space inside the lamp column to fit the charging point
Earthing requirements
If the lamp column is next to a parking space
As such, we said that we cannot guarantee that all suggested sites would be taken forward for installation.
Please note we are not currently suggesting to change the usage of any parking bays next to the lamp column charging point, so no spaces will be lost.
We’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who gave their suggestions. We will keep this site updated with further news. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us by emailing sustainable.transport@kingston.gov.uk.
