Cambridge Road proposal

Cambridge Road is part of the Kingston Small Sites Affordable Housing Programme being delivered by The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames to provide affordable council-owned housing in small sites across Kingston.

The proposed development has the potential to deliver brand new homes in Kingston at genuinely affordable rent levels and will result in a vacant parcel of land being utilised to support the growing local community.

The site is located directly south-east of the Cambridge Road Estate, which has recently received a positive residents’ ballot to undergo considerable regeneration.

Currently scrubland, the site is to the rear of the parade of shops at 204 to 210c Cambridge Road, with good access to local amenities and is within a 10 minute walk of the railway station with direct links to Central London.

The proposal is for a 5 storey building with a mix of 19 affordable one and two bedroom homes, with access from both Cambridge Road to the north and Willow Court to the west of the site.

On street parking will provide 11 parking spaces and about 37 cycle parking spaces – in line with the London Plan – for residents, whilst a landscaped zone to the west of the new building will provide private amenity space.

The new residential building will overlook a landscaped area which will accommodate a tree lined parking area. New communal spaces would be added with formal children’s play space, natural play and lawn areas at ground level

This high quality development will ensure the homes are dual aspect, with either private gardens (ground floor) or corner balconies for private open space. The placement of the building ensures it is setback from neighbouring properties to maintain privacy, and tree planting across the site will create pleasant interfaces with neighbouring sites and contribute to a high quality living environment.
