King Charles Road, Surbiton traffic calming review

Some residents have raised concerns with your ward councillors regarding traffic safety on King Charles Road. Particular concerns were specifically raised about the dangerous traffic speed of some drivers near existing chicane measures, to avoid existing arrangement of give way at chicanes causing near misses.

In response, six locations have been identified for new traffic improvement measures, based on a review of accidents records, a speed survey, residents’ comments and site observations.

King Charles Road is used as a diversion route for northbound traffic, should an incident occur on the A240 Ewell Road. The aim of the proposed scheme is to ensure that through traffic using this residential road, is within the 20mph traffic speed limit, and is not raising any accident risks.

On 13 June 2018, Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee has discussed and approved the scheme in principal, subject to local consultation, and no significant objections being received. You can view the whole committee report on the council website.

Let us know what you think by completing the survey by Friday 30 November.

What will happen next?
Consultation results and comments will be discussed with the Surbiton Neighbourhood Chair and Vice Chair. If no significant objections are received, the proposed scheme will be implemented in the 2019/2020 financial year and will be funded by Transport for London.

Results of the consultation will be available on this page by mid January 2019.
